Hildewintera hybrid EOS aka AURORA. Absolutely beautiful plant and one of my favorites. Really need to get me another plant for breeding because it is so beautiful!
((G15 x Super Gelb) x (Martha x Herz Dame)) x Dagati from the Uwe Kahle cross KA.2016.110.5. In my opinion this is an absolute masterpiece hybrid and I grow four different sisters from this cross. The flowers almost look like feathers.
This one is an absolute favorite of mine, and I was lucky enough to finally have one flowering here. When I got into cactus breeding I didn´t really have a lot of famous clones, simply because I wanted to avoid asking for favors. So I actually bought this one for like 50-100 bucks at some point, and it took forever to get it to flowering size. I know I could have gotten one for free, but everything you get for free comes with baggage. So yeah, Liskes Feuerzauber finally flowering for me. This video was recorded in the 2020 season and it has since flowered very often again. The name of the hybrid in the video is LISKES FEUERZAUBER and it grew from a WÖRLITZ x CANTORA GELB cross, breeder Reinhard Liske.
I really like this hybrid by Hans Dieter Hetzel and it’s a very fertile plant in my greenhouse. I made a lot of crosses with this hybrid between PAPAGEI x Paradiesvogel ) x NOSTALGIE. PAPAGEI is a Trichocereus thelegonus hybrid with a freaky flower, and it probably passed it down to this one too. The flowers are almost always mutated in some way. The full label is HDH.2008.0048.
Trichocereus hybrid comes from the German breeder Rainer Heise. Trichocereus grandigonus is a hybrid between Trichocereus grandiflora eyriesii and Trichocereus thelegonus. The father is a Trichocereus vatteri with a beautiful orange flower. It has a slender body very similar to other Thelegonus hybrids like Trichocereus imperialis. The spines are very short, more like the spines on Echinopsis eyriesii v.grandiflora. Please note that this is NOT the same plant as Trichocereus grandiflorus.

Echinopsis hybrid Goldrosé (with the french accent) is a Hartmut Kellner hybrid and one of the VERY FEW Echinopsis hybrids that I personally own. Echinopsis flowers can be great, but very often they are not and I really can´t keep hundreds of Echinopsis to get the really good ones. Overall, I probably have a couple hundred Echinopsis and Goldrosé is one of them. I love the flower and it´s also very good at passing down awesome flowers to the next generation. The parents are KE.33.1992.4=Herz Dame x Tricho Kaiser. The flower diameter is roughly 14 cm.
APRICOT GLOW is a classic Trichocereus hybrid by Mark Dimmitt. It’s famous for the incredibly glowing flowers, which are among the best flower hybrids ever created. I am not sure about the parents of this one, but it’s definitely a fantastic hybrid.
I am trying to post a cactus of the day in the future, and this one here is the Robert Gräser hybrid THELEFLORA. It´s an older hybrid and already counts as a real classic. The parents are Echinopsis thelegona / Trichocereus thelegonus x Echinopsis eyriesii v.grandiflora (not to be confused with Trichocereus grandiflorus). The body follows Trichocereus thelegonus, but is a bit thicker with segmented areoles. The flowers are pink to purple with longer flower tubes like you see it on the Echinopsis. Very nice mix between two completely different plants.
First Light is a classic Trichocereus hybrid with a very unique flower. They only open for a relatively short amount of time, but when they are open they look amazing. It´s a very unique hybrid that´s still relevant, even after all those years. The breeder of Trichocereus FIRST LIGHT is Mark Dimmitt.
So this one is a very old Gräser hybrid called APOROCANDICANS SCHIGRA F2. I think the breeder is Gräser himself, but I am far from certain. The parents are an Aporocandicans hybrid (Aporocactus flagelliformis x Trichocereus candicans) x Schigra (Schickendantzii x Echinopsis eyriesii v. grandiflora) and this is an F2 hybrid from that cross. The flowers are beautifully ruffled and have a similar color to other Gäser hybrids like GRÄSERS SCHÖNSTE or GRÄSERS ERFOLG. The flowers open a bit reluctantly, which is what I haven’t really gotten perfect photos of it yet. Hope to change that in the next season.
This one is a fantastic Pseudolobivia (now treated as Echinopsis) hybrid by Andreas Wessner called 18a/2000. The flowers have these nice pink stripes in center of the petals. Very nice and also a great parent in hybrid crosses.
Since Andreas Wessner does often not publish the parents of his crosses, I do not know which parents are involved here. Very clearly, one of them must be an Echinopsis obrepanda like hybrid and that one came very strongly in the body. It’s a classic Pseudolobivia like body (now included in Echinopsis and this one would probably count as Echinopsis obrepanda hybrid, simply based on the body). I also have offspring of it that ended up being world class, so this is a really good hybrid.
This cool plant is an Echinopsis shaferi / Trichocereus shaferi that I got through eBay, maybe 10-15 years ago. The plant was supposed to flower white, but ended up having an incredibly beautiful yellow flower that had a diameter of over 20 cm AND WAS RUFFLED. Perfect flower right there. The plant is incredibly fertile and pollinates most of the flowers I put it on.
I am also aware that the Hofer family has spread some Trichocereus shaferi hybrids in the past, and I am not sure if it is one of theirs. It was supposed to be a white flowering botanical Shaferi. But who knows. This species is also VERY close to Trichocereus vollianus.
While it was really stressful to film the 2020 season shown here in this video, it was very well worth it judging by the amazing clips I filmed! This was one of the first and biggest flower flushes in 2020, and it rained so badly that I had to pollinate them all inside my greenhouse. I also had my parents arguing and calling me to complain about each other. Definitely not an optimal situation but I made the best out of it! Hope you enjoy it!
Echinopsis thelegonoides hybrid MAINZ is one of my most favorite hybrids by far. MAINZ is from German breeder Rainer Heise and it is named after the German city MAINZ (where Jürgen Klopp got his start in football life) . The flowers are very precious, beautiful shape, large and the body of the plant looks great too! Crosses with MAINZ are very sought after and the plant itself is rarely available on the market. One of my personal classics.
Echinopsis thelegonoides aka Trichocereus thelegonoides is not the same species as Echinopsis thelegonus aka Trichocereus thelegonus. It´s a different species that´s thicker and more columnar.
So this one is an Uwe Kahle between Takoradi x Flying Saucer. It´s an older video and I have since learned that Takoradi is a hybrid between Soehrensia bruchii x Rosa California. The father of the plant in the video is Flying Saucer and the offspring is remarkably awesome. I own three plants from this cross and all are good in their own way.
